The Kamakura Festival is held every year at Yokote City in Northeastern Japan. A kamakura is an igloo like structure made from mounds of snow built up and compacted. They are then hollowed from the inside. They can be as tall as 6 feet. Children sit inside around a small charcoal brazier, toasting mochi and warming a fermented rice drink to offer to visitors.
I've seen pictures of the structures at night, lit up by candles and it's just beautiful. This morning it snowed and snowed and when it finally stopped, Ivy and I went outside to try and build our own.
It's no where near 6 feet high, it's just about tall enough for her to sit inside.
