We had recently read "Ellen Tebbits" by Beverly Cleary. There's a chapter where Ellen and her friend Austine pick out fabric and a pattern so their mothers can make them matching dresses. Ivy wanted an "old-fashioned dress like Ellen's"
She specifically requested a collar, puffed sleeves and a sash. Back when Miranda was little I'd bought some vintage patterns off of Ebay, but never got around to using them. I used pieces from several patterns to make the dress Ivy wanted
She adores the collar. It's her favorite part of the entire dress. Every time she'd try it on she comment on "and isn't the collar so nice!". Collars and sleeves are not my strong point, that's why I usually stick to pinafores and raglan smocks. But it turned out pretty well. Except that of course it's too big. Everything I make turns out huge, I think because I'm so worried about putting work into something that will be too small. At least she'll be able to wear it for a few years.
