Such a wonderful surprise to read I've been nominated for a Nice Matters award by Norththreads It's quite gratifying to realize that not only are people reading my blog, but they have some wonderful things to say about it as well.
"This award is for those bloggers who are nice people; good blog friends and those who inspire good feelings and inspiration. Also for those who are a positive influence on our blogging world. Once you've been awarded please pass it on to others who you feel are deserving of this award."
In the spirit of the award, here are my own nominees:
- Zhinka Dinka Doo one of the first people to start commenting on my blog, a great crafty mom who generously shares her projects and ideas
- Little Jenny Wren Living in a small town in Tasmania and sharing adventures in simple domestic living
- Echoes of a Dream Simmy shows how her family follows the seasons in the Waldorf tradition, including great tutorials.
- Montessori by Hand Sharing what it's like to be a Montessori teacher in Mexico
- Rehearsal Time's Over a mom raising two children in Japan, writing thought-provoking, interesting essays about the process.
This weekend I finally got some time to myself. I went downtown to the library--I think it's been almost a year since I've been there. Parking is annoying, so if I go with the girls I take the bus--as much a treat as going to the library. When I was a girl, I used to go to the library during Christmas break and during the summer. It was always a big treat to take the bus downtown. About 10 years ago a new, larger building was added on, but the beautiful old building still houses some of the collection. There is a special smell of old books, not all libraries have it, particularly the ones without the room to keep the really old books on the shelves. The downtown library has this privilege and that smell--wonderful.
I got some children's books in Japanese to practice reading, including Okina mori no chiisana ie (Little House in the Big Woods) for a challenge. There is an interior decorating book in Japanese as well, along with a great book on shoemaking, and a children's clothing book that is a little cuter than I usually like, but has some nice techniques. Also, another book in the Mary Frances series--these are reprints from a 1920's series. I have all the others--gardening, sewing and housekeeping--but not this one. They really are quite sweet. I think the reprints are out of print as well, but there are a few affordable copies online if you search Addall. I was a bit annoyed with myself--all this time alone at the library and I couldn't think of anything I wanted to browse. Two books I really wanted to get-- Kokoro no Te and Bend the Rules Sewing weren't available. Still, it was nice to be able to walk around leisurely, and something I should do more often.
Bah, it is shaping up to be One Of Those Nights. We went to a friend's house earlier and Ivy sacked out, now it's after 1AM and she and Miranda are still going strong. Generally the parent who stays up gets to be the one who sleeps in, something I am trying to remind myself of, resisting shaking Brian awake with cries to please help me.
Wow! I'm not able to read blogs for a week, and look at what I miss! Such a kind mention of my blog, thank you! And thank you also for the links to the other wonderful blogs!
