Superbuzzy has ruined me forever when it comes to buying fabric. Very little at Joann's appeals to me anymore (and yet, I still manage to spend money there, how is that? Oh, maybe the two yards of linen, and the two yards of beautiful blue velveteen to make a Christmas dress for Ivy). I was hoping maybe the arrival of Fall would bring some new prints to the calico selection, but there just hasn't been anything I like--and this past year there had been some great fabric at Joann's, I was really starting to get impressed with their selection. But now all I can think of is hedgehogs and mushrooms and Little Red Riding Hood. Fortunately, with kids' clothing a half a yard can go a long way--I can get a bodice and a couple of pockets and still have a little left over. I have some clothing I'm working on that is mainly linen with some printed fabric embellishments--sleeves on one, a large patch pocket on the other. I think as I am starting to develop a style of my own, I may focus on saving my money to buy the fabrics I really want, instead of just buying inexpensive stuff to build my stash.
These are some more smocks I'm working on--I love this pattern, it looks like an old fashioned top little girls and boys wear in some of my old books. The larger two are linen with 1930's reproduction fabric from a local quilt shop, the smaller uses Japanese fabric from the aforementioned Superbuzzy
The one with the large blue pocket with the cat and letters pattern is for Ivy, the other two will go in my shop as soon as I finish the sleeves and hems.
I'm in a bit of a quandary over my next fabric purchase, I can't decide whether to get more printed fabric or some silk and linen from Dharma Trading Company. I have an idea for reversible baby kimono jackets made of silk on one side and flannel on the other, but I don't know how practical that is. Just because I don't mind hand washing baby clothes doesn't mean other people wouldn't.
